Suspect, believed to be a marine, kills two people at base in Virginia then turns gun on himself after standoff
Three people have been killed at a US marine base in Virginia after a suspected gunman opened fire on two others before turning the gun on himself.
The first victim was shot at Marine Base Quantico at about 11pm local time on Thursday, leading to a standoff between authorities and the suspect, said base spokesman Lt Agustin Solivan.
Authorities entered the barracks early on Friday and found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, along with a second victim. Solivan could not say what prompted authorities to enter the barracks.
No names were immediately released but Solivan said the suspect and both victims were marines. Authorities believe the suspect was a staff member at the officer candidate school at the base, Solivan said.
