INS Viraat to be turned into maritime museum
The decommissioned aircraft carrier will be grouted (grounded, sealed to the seabed with concrete and moored) seven nautical miles off the Malvan coast at Nivati rocks in Sindhudurg. Oakland Zoo Raises Record-Breaking $332,000 for Wildlife Conservation
In January of this year the governing organization of Oakland Zoo changed its name to the Conservation Society of California to better reflect the zoo’s evolving purpose and mission in its commitment to conservation, meeting the goal of raising a quarter of a million dollars to support wildlife conservation in 2018.

Oakland Zoo, governed by the Conservation Society of California (CSC), has raised a record-breaking $332,000 for animals in the wild over the past year, largely due to its‘Quarters for Conservation,’ program where 50¢ of every ticket sold and $2 from every membership is designated to the Zoo’s 25 wildlife conservation partners. The contribution significantly in surpassed previous efforts - $126,000 in 2017 and in $104,000 in 2016.
The substantial increase in funding raised is due in part to the Zoo’s re-brand earlier this year in re-naming it’s governing organization from East Bay Zoological Society to the CSC to better demonstrate the Zoo’s commitment to conservation. With that change, the amount allocated to Q4C was doubled from 25¢ to 50¢, also adding the per Zoo membership contribution. Since the opening of the 56-acre California Trail expansion, Oakland Zoo’s has experienced increased attendance which further aided in growing the Zoo’s Q4C program.
Fifty percent of this year’s funds will go directly to three featured out-in-the-field conservation programs focused on species related to the new California Trail at Oakland Zoo; Grey wolves (California Wolf Center), Mountain Lions (Mountain Lion Foundation) and bears (The Bear League). These species reflect native California animals now living at Oakland Zoo, many who had been orphaned and rescued from the wild – with the Zoo’s aim to educate visitors on how to help conserve these animals’ counterparts in the wild.

Their partnership in working to create a California that can coexist with wildlife is vital. Hofseth Biocare ASA: HBC Third Quarter 2018 Financial Report
Hofseth BioCare had operating revenues of NOK 16.9m (27.9m) in the third quarter of 2018. Sales revenues for the first nine months of 2018 amounted to NOK 46.3m (39.8m).
Cost of Goods Sold (CoGS) amounted to NOK 14.3m (20.9m) in the period. Operational profit (EBITDA) for the third quarter 2018 was negative NOK 14.7m (6.3m).
Cash and cash equivalents increased by NOK 47.5m during the quarter, leaving total holding of cash and cash equivalents at NOK 58.0m by the end of the period.
In the third quarter of 2018, 932 tons of finished goods in total were manufactured at all HBC plants, including the capacity lease volumes, compared to 1,027 tons in the second quarter of 2018. HBC Berkåk produced 321 tons of finished products in the third quarter, including the capacity lease manufactured products, compared to 322.3 tons in the previous quarter.

Company expands scholarship program to support trade educators

By 2020, an estimated 31 million* skilled trades positions will be left vacant by retiring Baby Boomers and not enough new trade-educated technicians with the skills needed to take their place. The costs of receiving an education can be high, making it challenging for employers to find trade-educated replacements for retirees. That’s why Shurtape Technologies, LLC, a leading manufacturer and marketer of pressure-sensitive tapes, introduced Mission: HVAC, Educating for Success, a scholarship program that is designed to help support the next generation of HVAC students. Now, the company is searching for HVAC students – in addition to trade school programs – to participate in the program’s fifth year.
Over the course of 10 months, up to three students – selected via an application process open to students from technical schools nationwide – will be given 10 HVAC-themed missions that will require them to do research, conduct interviews with HVAC pros and educators, and analyze their own experiences studying and practicing HVAC skills. By participating in the program and completing all 10 missions, each student will be awarded with $5,000 to put toward the cost of their education and position them for future employment.
This year, for the first time ever, Shurtape is also expanding Mission: HVAC to trade schools, offering the chance for HVAC educators to apply on behalf of their HVAC program to receive $5,000 to put toward either the tools, technology, or training their school needs to equip students to be successful. Whether there is a need for fully stocked toolboxes, technology to modernize the classroom, or additional scholarships and training opportunities, two trade schools or technical programs will be selected to receive their own $5,000 “scholarship.” Representatives from the selected schools will be asked to complete up to three of their own missions, providing commentary from an educator’s perspective on the state of the HVAC industry.

Plan For World's Largest Nature Reserve In Antarctica Blocked By Russia, China, And Norway
The plan to create one of the largest marine sanctuaries in off the coast of Antarctica was rejected on Friday, according to The Guardian. Even though a majority of the members of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources backed the project to protect Antarctic waters, environmental groups said Russia, China, and Norway joined together to block the proposal from moving forward.
