PM Modi should have associated with Amaravati project: Chandrababu Naidu

$

Charging the Prime Minister with reneging on promise to financially support building of the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, state Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said Amaravati project is a national pride and Narendra Modi should have "at least" associated with it.

Naidu, a former BJP ally who quit the NDA early this year over the Centre's refusal to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh, alleged the saffron party was not associating with the greenfield project due to "political reasons". Asserting that the capital city is being developed at a faster pace, the chief minister said that any change of government in the state is unlikely to affect the works as a "solid eco-system" has been put in place.

"The Amaravati project is a national pride and I wish the prime minister had associated with it. Why cannot the centre share the pride by getting associated with it? Because of political reasons, they are not able to associate with it," Naidu told PTI.

Modi had laid the foundation stone for the capital city of Amaravati in October 2015 amid much fanfare but "he later went back on his promise to provide funds for the project," he said.

"I developed Hyderabad as an IT hub. Former prime ministers always used to praise the city as a national pride....Why cannot Modi do it?" Naidu said. On the progress of new capital, the chief minister said roads, office buildings and courts are coming up at a pace never done before. About Rs 3,400 crore has been spent on the project so far including Rs 1,500 crore from the Centre and Rs 1,000 crore from the neighbouring Telangana.

"There is non-cooperation from the Centre. We are paying them more taxes that what they have given to the capital. We have received only Rs 1,500 crore. Once the capital is made, they will receive Rs 880 crore income in taxes," he said. Naidu further said he is undeterred by lack of funds and is confident of arranging finances so that the work is not affected.

"I am not comfortable with the finances. But I have the will power. I will develop the city no matter what," he said adding that Amaravati will be developed as a model city that will be bench marked in the top ten cities of the world.

The Andhra Pradesh government has raised Rs 11,300 crore for the project through different means including bonds against the requirement of Rs 48,116 crore.

Asked if any change in government in the state will affect the progress of the project, Naidu said, "An eco-system has been put in place. The project will continue without hurdles for next ten years." According to the Andhra

Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) Additional Commissioner S Shan Mohan, "We are attracting investments from private. There are 19 projects under PPP mode. This includes schools, marine, commercial malls, and driveways.""We see these 19 projects as test of viability of the city as an economic hub,"' he added.

· Minerv Bio Cosmetics, the 100% natural bioplastic microspheres biodegradable in soil and water, are named the year’s most innovative biobased product in the cosmetics sector.
· Frost & Sullivan finds that “Bio-On is properly positioned to serve as a leader in the bio-polymeric ingredient revolution for the cosmetics industry”.
· For Frost & Sullivan, the bioplastic microspheres patented by Bio-on are “incredibly versatile” and are “a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for use in not only cosmetics, but also in the food, healthcare, packaging, and FMCG industries. Looking ahead, the PHAs could provide a potential solution for cancer treatment within the next few years”.

BOLOGNA (Italy) 8 October 2018 – *Bio-on*, listed on the AIM segment of Borsa Italiana and operating in the high quality bioplastic sector, *has been awarded the “Best Practices” award by Frost & Sullivan for **New Product Innovation in the Bio-based Ingredients for the Cosmetics industry*. In particular the analysts at Frost & Sullivan examined the extraordinary performances of the *Minerv Bio Cosmetics *bioplastic microspheres designed to replace the polluting oil-based microplastics that are now found in many cosmetic formulations. An innovation certified by *Natrue *and *Cosmos* that looks set to profoundly transform the beauty products sector.

The award, globally recognised as one of the most prestigious and reliable, confirms the unique nature of Bio-on’s solutions made from 100% natural and biodegradable bioplastic. Indeed, Frost & Sullivan finds that “Bio-on is properly positioned to serve as a leader in the bio-polymeric ingredient revolution for the cosmetics industry”.

Outlining its reasons for assigning the award, Frost & Sullivan’s analysts write that “Bio-on SpA of Italy has developed an innovative range of patented biopolymers called PHAs (polyhydroxyalkanoates) under the brand MINERV. MINERV-PHAs can be used as cosmetics ingredients because they are based on polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), which is a fully biodegradable PHA. For this reason, MINERV can be easily biodegraded in both marine water and soil yielding simple by-products such as carbon dioxide and water.” *Bio-on’s biopolymers “successfully replace highly polluting products such as PET, PP, PE, HDPE, and LDPE”, which are widely used in cosmetics such as **lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, eye-liner, nail polish, creams, shampoos, shower gels and toothpastes*. The presence of these microscopic plastic particles, which are oil-based and not biodegradable, is the cause of increasing marine pollution and a source of alarm around the world.

Frost & Sullivan confirms that the bioplastic microspheres patented by Bio-on (produced in various sizes and resembling a powder) are “incredibly versatile, with applications ranging from skin cream and make-up to hair care or hygiene products” and, if their high porosity is exploited, they “can act as a carrier and dispenser of bioactive ingredients such as vitamins, enzymes, fragrances, and other cosmetic actives”.

The award recognises that Bio-on bioplastics “*are a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for use in not only cosmetics, but also in the food, healthcare, packaging, and FMCG industries. Looking ahead,” *write the analysts at Frost & Sullivan, *“the PHAs could provide a potential solution for cancer treatment within the next few years”*.

“The company is differentiated from its competitors by its capacity to address specific challenges its customers face by developing customized solutions”, writes Frost & Sullivan, and “offering end-to-end support in research, development, manufacturing, and even technology licensing”.

The main characteristics that distinguish *Minerv Bio Cosmetics*, the cosmetics ingredients (resembling a powder) made from Bio-on bioplastic microspheres of various sizes, are listed below:

· 100% natural. Made from renewable plant sources using a bacterial fermentation process (human-friendly, non-pathogenic bacteria) and the entire process uses mechanical methods without chemical solvents.
· 100% biodegradable. Full biodegradability in water and soil certified by Vincotte.
· Exceptionally high sphericity. This is a highly sought after characteristic in the cosmetics sector, and particularly in texturizing powders, because it guarantees smooth creams that are easier and more pleasurable to apply.
· High porosity. Thanks to this characteristic, bioplastic microcapsules can be “loaded” with and easily absorb active substances, which can then be carried and released for various applications. For some cosmetic creams, high porosity helps control excess sebum.
· Extraordinary optical properties. Bio-on’s bioplastic microspheres help make cosmetics that exceed the mattifying effect of most products currently on the market.
· They can also be used in sun protection products. The booster effect of Bio-on’s cosmetics ingredients drastically reduces the quantity of chemical UV filters to be used in the formulation.
· It is a platform product. The powders produced from 5 to 20 micron in size can be used in not only cosmetics, but also in the food, healthcare, packaging and FMCG industries. In the future, it could provide a solution for cancer treatment thanks to the ability of the microspheres to act as a carrier of active substances.

Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Accreditation Commission Grants Accreditation to 24 Facilities During Fall 2018 Review Cycle

Silver Spring, Maryland, Oct. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Twice a year, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) independent Accreditation Commission reviews accreditation applications from the best aquariums, nature centers, science centers, and zoos in the world. Most recently, the Commission examined 27 accreditation applications and two certification applications during the AZA Annual Conference in Seattle, Wash. As a result of these rigorous assessments, AZA proudly announces the accreditation of the following, including two new facilities:
· Aquarium of Niagara; N.Y. *[New]*
· Blank Park Zoo; Iowa
· Brookgreen Gardens; S.C.
· The Butterfly House; Mo.
· Buttonwood Park Zoo; Mass.
· Calgary Zoo; Canada
· Chattanooga Zoo; Tenn.
· Clyde Peeling's Reptiland; Pa.
· Fort Wayne Children's Zoo; Ind.
· Greensboro Science Center; N.C.
· Hutchinson Zoo; Kan.
· International Crane Foundation; Wis.
· Maryland Zoo in Baltimore; Md.
· Miller Park Zoo; Ill.
· Milwaukee County Zoological Gardens; Wis.
· Oglebay's Good Zoo; W.Va
· Oklahoma City Zoological Park; Okla.
· Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park; N.Y.
· SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium; Mo.
· Seneca Park Zoo; N.Y.
· Smithsonian National Zoological Park; D.C.
· Utica Zoo; N.Y. *[New]*
· Vancouver Aquarium and Marine Science Centre; Canada
· Virginia Zoological Park; Va.

“AZA's rigorous standards for veterinary care and animal welfare prove animal well-being is their top priority," said Azzedine Downes, President and CEO of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). "For the millions of people who visit AZA-accredited facilities each year, they can be sure they are visiting and engaging with the best of the best. IFAW is proud to work with these facilities to educate the public on the importance of providing expert animal care and to inspire the next generation of conservationists."

AZA also granted certification to two new related facilities: the Ape Cognition and Conservation Initiative in Iowa and the Turtle Survival Center in South Carolina. The certification process is equivalent to the accreditation process but is designed for wildlife-holding facilities that are non- commercial entities and are not open to the public on a regular basis.

Each facility underwent a thorough review to make sure it has and will continue to meet ever-rising standards, which emphasize animal welfare and care, veterinary programs, conservation, education, and safety. AZA requires facilities to complete this rigorous accreditation process every five years to be members of the Association.

“AZA’s independent commission grants accreditation only to exceptional zoos and aquariums that have met or exceeded our rigorous, ever-improving standards,” said Dan Ashe, President and CEO of AZA. “AZA-accredited facilities fulfill our mission of protecting wildlife and wild places by providing expert care to hundreds of thousands of animals and contributing over $200 million conservation each year. I am pleased to welcome these facilities and their staff to our community of animal heroes.”

The accreditation process includes a detailed application and a meticulous on-site multiple-day inspection by an independent team of trained zoological professionals. The inspecting team observes all aspects of the facility’s operation, including animal welfare and well-being; veterinary care; keeper training; safety for visitors, staff, and animals; educational programs; conservation efforts; financial stability; risk management; guest services. Detailed reports from the inspection team and the facility alike are then thoroughly evaluated by the Accreditation Commission. Finally, top officials are interviewed in person by the Commission at a formal hearing, after which accreditation is granted, tabled, or denied.

Demonstrating the stringency and independence of this process, and after a rigorous six-month examination and on-site inspection, AZA’s Accreditation Commission decided to deny accreditation to the Zoo at Chehaw, located in Albany, Ga. The Zoo at Chehaw had been an accredited member of AZA for 21 years. The Commission cited deferred maintenance on essential zoo structures combined with declining financial backing from the city as among the primary reasons for denying Chehaw’s accreditation application. The Commission is hopeful the Zoo can work on all issues cited and reapply for accreditation in the future. Any facility that is denied may reapply after one year if it has thoroughly redressed the reasons for denial. The Zoo at Chehaw has a limited period in which to appeal the Commission’s decision.

Over the past ten years, the Commission has accredited 273 facilities, with many being successfully accredited twice during that time span. The Commission has denied accreditation to 22 facilities.

There are currently 233 AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums and 15 AZA-certified related facility members throughout the U.S. and in eight other countries.

The Commission will next meet to review accreditation applications in Spring 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona. For a full list of facilities applying for AZA accreditation, please visit https://www.aza.org/upcoming-reviews. For a complete list of currently accredited AZA-facilities, please visit https://www.aza.org/current-accreditation-list.
