EMGS - Vessel update and activity for the third quarter 2018

$
0
0
Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (the "Company" or "EMGS") releases information on vessel activity and utilisation 4-5 working days after the close of each quarter. The Company defines vessel utilisation as the percentage of the vessel charter period spent on proprietary or multi-client data acquisition. Downtime (technical or maritime), mobilisation, steaming, and some standby activities are not included in the utilisation rate.

Vessel utilisation for the third quarter 2018 was 29% compared with 77% for the third quarter in 2017.

In the third quarter of 2018, the Company's vessels were allocated 29% to multi-client projects and no time was spent on proprietary work. In the comparable quarter of 2017, the vessel was allocated 72% to multi-client projects and 5% to a funded research and development project.

EMGS had two vessels in operation and recorded 6.0 vessel months in the quarter. In the third quarter 2017, the Company recorded 3.0 vessel months.

*Vessel activity
*The Atlantic Guardian acquired data on multi-client surveys in the North Sea in the beginning of the quarter, after which she acquired data on a multi-client survey in the Norwegian Sea until 16 September 2018.

The Atlantic Guardian's utilisation for the third quarter was 59%.

The BOA Thalassa has been idle this quarter.

*Multi-client revenues in the third quarter
*The new revenue recognition standard, IFRS 15, was effective from 1 January 2018. The new standard's impact on recognition of multi-client pre-funding revenues has still not been concluded. The interpretation of the new standard is the same as last quarter. The multi-client prefunding revenues are recognised at the point in time final data is delivered to the customer, and not based on the so-called Percentage of Completion (POC) principle.

The Company expects to record approximately USD 5 million in multi-client revenues for the third quarter 2018.

If the Company had used the same revenue recognition principles as in 2017 (i.e. the POC principle), the multi-client revenues for the third quarter 2018 would have totaled approximately USD 2 million.

The difference in revenues are timing differences only and does not have any effect on cashflow.

EMGS will publish its third quarter 2018 financial results on Thursday 1 November 2018 at 07:30 CET. A presentation will be broadcasted live over the Internet, starting at 10:00 CET. To access the presentation, please go to the Company's homepage (www.emgs.com) and follow the link.

Join this nonprofit in their mission to build a new life changing Center dedicated to the physical, mental, and social recovery of wounded warriors.

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) October 04, 2018

On October 20, 2018 in Westlake Village, California, Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra will benefit from Bravery Uncorked--an afternoon of food, wine, and jazz where 100% of the proceeds will benefit the first National Wounded Warrior Center in Mammoth Lakes, California. A small group of passionate volunteers have spearheaded this fundraising event for the last six years.

This trailblazing facility will function as a civilian life reintegration lodge for active duty and veteran wounded warriors. Here they will have access to education, rehabilitation, and health and wellness programs in a world class environment for therapeutic outdoor experiences.

“In 2017, we set our sights on fundraising $100K and were thrilled by everyone’s generosity and support.” said Executive Director Kathy Copeland. “We are excited to see what we can do this year, and we have amazing auction prizes and an inspiring wounded warrior guest speaker.”

The 7th Annual Bravery Uncorked Benefit will run from 12:30pm-4:30pm on October 20, 2018 at Boccaccio’s Restaurant, overlooking the lake.

The event will include wine tasting, a delicious Hors d’ Oeuvres reception, live jazz with the Jack Daro Trio, and a live and silent auction, including original photography, spa treatments, golf rounds, wines, special event tickets, and more.

Guests will also experience the life-affirming words of guest speaker Josh Elliott, a marine veteran who lost both legs after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan. After returning home, he fell in love with the freedom and exhilaration of mono-skiing and has traveled the world to compete, including the 2018 Paralympic games.

Avondale’s UNO Maritime Center of Excellence has remained open and continues to do engineering and design work in support of Ingalls’ shipbuilding programs.

“We are very proud of our legacy at Avondale and the many contributions that generations of its shipbuilders made to our national security,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias. “Ingalls will continue to maintain a presence in Louisiana, not only at the UNO Center, but also through the many Louisiana residents who commute to Pascagoula each day to help us build the ships we produce for our nation’s defense. We are pleased that Avondale Marine plans to put the facility back into commerce and look forward to its success.”

The Million Waves Project turns ocean plastic into prostheses with funding from Shell

ANACORTES, Wash. (PRWEB) October 04, 2018

Shell’s Puget Sound Refinery recently presented the Million Waves Project, an Anacortes, Wash.-based nonprofit, with a grant to purchase a high-tech machine that turns plastic into prosthesis. The Million Waves Project collects and processes marine debris that washes ashore in Washington State. The organization then processes the usable plastic and turns it into 3D printed prosthetic limbs for children and adults.

“We are so excited to partner with this incredible nonprofit that aims to help serve the millions of people in need of prosthetic limbs,” said Brenna Clairr O’Tierney, an external relations adviser at Shell’s Puget Sound Refinery. “Our vision at the refinery is to proudly fuel life in the Pacific Northwest for our employees, contractors and our community, and we help bring that vision to life by collaborating with organizations like a Million Waves Project. We can’t wait to see the life-changing impacts that it generates around the world!”

The Million Waves Project is dedicated to closing the loop on marine waste.

“If we can transform a huge problem into something useful to someone then we redefine waste to a resource,” said Chris Moriarity, the executive director of the Million Waves Project.
Million Waves co-founder Laura Moriarity added, “We love that a major energy company like Shell wants to serve as a genuine teammate in our mission to clean up our waterways and make a lasting difference in people’s lives. We are so excited about this partnership and can’t wait to explore more ways to broaden our impact moving forward!”

Deploying Innovative Strategy to Combat Unique Industry Challenges: Atlantic Towing Nationally Recognized for Employment Equity Initiatives.

SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick, Oct. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On October 3, Atlantic Towing Limited received national recognition for its commitment to employment equity and diversity in the workplace. The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour presented the organization with an Employment Equity Achievement Award at the annual award ceremony in Ottawa."When everyone is on an equal footing, they can contribute to the best of their abilities,” says Hajdu. “Employers must stay alert to barriers that can keep members of the four designated groups—women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities—from participating fully in the workplace. By making sure every Canadian has an equal and fair chance at success, employers contribute meaningfully to Canada's economic growth."

Atlantic Towing received the Innovation award, which recognizes employers who have demonstrated creativity in the design and implementation of measures to remove barriers, positive practices and new initiatives.

“Our industry presents unique challenges to inclusive hiring,” says Gilles Gagnon, VP and General Manager of Atlantic Towing. “This forces us to think creatively to expand and diversify our employee base to include underrepresented groups. Our goal is to not only meet legislative requirements, but to develop a mature program focused on the full benefits of diverse and inclusive ideas and experiences.”

Marine industries have traditionally been male dominated.  Despite efforts to attract women to the industry, marine educational institutions across Canada experience low female enrolment. Atlantic Towing has undertaken various initiatives to remove barriers to employment, particularly among underrepresented groups.  Efforts include a Diversity and Inclusion Committee with related strategic objectives in the company’s annual plan.  Partnerships are vital to succeeding and Atlantic Towing values the strong relationships with its educational partners like the Marine Institute and College of the North Atlantic in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as the community colleges in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.  Through groups like Techsploration NS, young women from grades nine through twelve are made aware of the career opportunities and experiences of women succeeding in a marine career.

This year, the company made waves as its vessel, the Atlantic Willow, became the first tugboat in the Port of Halifax to have an all-female crew.

“We firmly believe that having people of diverse backgrounds leads to better products, services and business results,” adds Gagnon, “We appreciate diverse perspectives, and are focused on evolving further to ensure our employees feel welcome, respected, supported and valued. This award from Canada for innovation is a tribute to the team who across are operations are embracing these goals.”

Atlantic Towing’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected in its holding company, J.D. Irving.

“Diversity of people and ideas are a vital source of innovation – strengths that we are committed to growing,” says Jim Irving, Co-CEO of J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI).

“We are very proud of the strong partnerships that we have developed with a number of well recognized groups including Women Unlimited, New Boots, Indigenous as well as African Canadian communities to support the training and hiring of individuals in the skills areas that we need,” explains Colleen Baxter, JDI’s VP of Human Resources. “Our focus will be to continue to grow these important partnerships as we look toward hiring over 10,000 people over the next 3 years.”
