Hawaii Dolphin Tour and Artist Team Up to Combat Single-Use Plastics

Dolphins and You partners with local artist to offer reusable glass straws in its store

HONOLULU (PRWEB) June 25, 2018

Oahu dolphin swim tour operator Dolphins and You announces a partnership with Hawaii-based glass artist Arlie Pemberton to combat single-use plastics. Arlie’s embellished, handmade glass straws will be for sale within the And You Creations shop – Treasures and You – by the end June, 2018.

Single-use Plastic straws are one of the most commonly found pieces of trash on beaches, and they pose a major threat to marine health. As a Hawai'i Ecotourism Association certified sustainable tour operator, Dolphins and You believes it is important to provide its guests with eco-friendly alternatives to common goods that can cause the ocean harm.

“Our future generations depend on us today to care about the natural resources they will inherit tomorrow,” Dolphins and You General Manager Kaina Neuman said.

Americans alone use half a billion straws every day, according to The Washington Post. And in Hawaii, CNN reported that nearly half of shoreline trash is made up of plastic. The issue strikes a chord with Dolphins and You, because studies have found that broken down plastics can travel up the food chain and poison sea animals like dolphins.

Dolphins and You adds reusable straws to a strong set of efforts already put in place to protect the environment. For instance, recycling receptacles are provided on all tours, and the crew aims to pick up at least two pieces of trash per person from the ocean on each tour. Additionally, within the Treasures and You shop, reef-safe sunscreen and reusable tote bags are available for purchase.

Arlie Pemberton was chosen to create the reusable straws, because Arlie Glass is an Oahu-based small business with a dedication to sustainable living.

“It is so important that we get rid of single-use plastic,” Arlie Pemberton said. “One of the easiest ways to start is to own reusable glass straws."

About Dolphins and You: Dolphins and You began entertaining guests 30 years ago and has become the longest-running and highest-rated dolphin swim tour on Oahu. Dolphins and You is the original tour of And You Creations. In 2016, And You Creations expanded to offer Nature and You, a hiking tour on the Manoa Falls Trail. This year the company continued its growth with the launch of the Island and You circle-island tour, and it has plans to expand develop further in the future.

Researchers have identified the biological process of mineralization that occurs in a young coral that shifts from the plankton (swimming) stage to the 'settled' stage in which it forms the skeleton from minerals that protect its colony. The discovery is important for understanding the process of coral reef formation and protecting marine creatures from ecological damage associated with global warming, and could impact new biotechnological developments using coral extractions to regenerate and reconstruct human bones. Composer Michael Gilbertson is in the middle of a busy summer. He’s scheduled for stints at music festivals in Iowa and Maine; he’s spending some time in Washington, D.C., in preparation for a commission he’s working on for the U.S. Marine Band; he’s getting to work on a new woodwind quintet and revising an old one-act opera — one he had considered “dead forever” — for a production by the Virginia Opera. It just goes to show, you shouldn’t underestimate the career boost that comes from losing the Pulitzer Prize. Lifecycle Biotechnologies Launches the Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program for SAFEthread™ Drums

Lifecycle Biotechnologies, a leading life science tools and services supplier, launches a plastic recycling program unlike any other life science tools supplier.

FORT WORTH, Texas (PRWEB) June 26, 2018

Lifecycle is committed to making a sustainable difference. As a medical grade plastic manufacturer, our commitment starts with a recycling program unlike any other life science tools supplier for our SAFEthread™ Drums.

A recently published study documented the input (transfer) of plastic waste from land into the ocean was eight million metric tons every year, expected to double by 2025. This very waste is leading to environmental degradation and loss of marine life.

“The packaging from our products, while the products themselves play a critical role in many of the world’s leading pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biologics, cell- and tissue-based products and many other medical products, end up in landfills and contribute to the tons of plastic waste amassed each year. As a medical grade plastic manufacturer, we have a responsibility and a unique ability to make a big difference to reduce this impact,” said Aaron Schieving, Director of Sales and Marketing for Lifecycle Biotechnologies. “The Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program stems from this responsibility and allows us to keep our plastic drums out of the landfills. It allows us to instead reclaim and reuse the plastic they are made from.”

The Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program is simple and comes with no financial costs to our customers as Lifecycle covers all shipping and grinding costs. Rather than throwing the drums in the trash, the program requires that the empty drums be stacked and stored at our customers facility. Lifecycle provides a qualified shipping configuration for the empty drums to be palletized and the same pallets the full drums initially ship on can be used to return them. When ready to ship, Lifecycle schedules the pick up of the shipment and once the drums are received back at our facility the plastic will be repurposed into new SAFEthread™ Drums.

“Lifecycle has always approached the design of our products and our packing with sustainability in mind, such as our CHEM+NECT™ or CHEM+POUR™ Bags, which provide an 84% reduction in waste as compared to plastic or glass bottles of equal size,” said Schieving. “The Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program allows us to now provide a 100% reduction in waste and to formalize our sustainability commitment and responsibilities. Please help us keep our plastic out of the landfills and oceans. Please don’t just throw them out. Please help us make a difference today and for the future.”

The Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program launches with Lifecycle’s 200L SAFEthread™ Drum, but will be expanded to include Lifecycle’s future products, such as the 100L SAFEthread™ Drum (Coming Soon!) and many more.
To learn more about Lifecycle Biotechnologies, the Sustainable Lifecycle Recycling Program, to experience a tremendous reduction in your waste, and to help make a difference today, please contact Lifecycle Biotechnologies at info@lifecyclebio.com, 817.840.7855, or http://www.lifecyclebio.com.

Based in Ft. Worth, TX, Lifecycle Biotechnologies has served the life science industry for 40 years.
